What Kind of Massage Do you Want and How Long?

*In all modalities there may be some soreness the next day, but it can be reduced by applying ice after the session and drinking plenty of water.*

Swedish Massage: This type of massage modality focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles. These techniques can involve soft, long, kneading and gliding strokes, as well as specific pressure, circular pressure, light tapping, and movement of connective tissue; which may also include stretching of the joints. Pressure can be either light, medium, or firm of your choosing.

This is a good massage to consider when you need to wind down, when getting your first massage or if you have not received a massage for some time.

Deep Tissue Massage: This type of massage modality has similar techniques to Swedish Massage. The pressure used in deep tissue massage addresses the deeper layers of muscle with slow, deliberate strokes that are beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. This slower speed and more concentrated sustained pressure encourages the muscles to relax and realign.

This modality is often used for therapeutic purposes to release chronic patterns of tension, reduce pain, relieve muscle spasms, rehab muscles, and increase range of motion. Muscles are specifically targeted to relieve or reduce any underlying muscle issues that may be causing your discomfort. It may feel like a lot more pressure is being applied to certain areas of your body because how tense some of these muscles are. With this in mind, any pressure applied is never my intent to cause you pain; please let me know if my pressure needs adjusting.

Prenatal MassagePregnancy massage is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Prenatal massage is specifically customized to the needs of pregnant women to help ease symptoms frequently related with pregnancy by alleviating discomfort, reducing swelling, relieving stress, reducing lower back pain, and regulating hormone levels. Furthermore, massage for pregnant women encourages blood and lymph circulation, reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, assists in better sleep, and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.

If you are experiencing breast sensitivity a small rolled up towel can be placed between or above the breasts, which usually alleviates this discomfort. Women who have recently experienced bleeding, preterm contractions, or have any of the following conditions should speak with their doctor prior to receiving a massage; high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), preeclampsia, previous preterm labor, experiencing severe swelling, high blood pressure, or sudden, severe headaches, previous miscarriages, and if you recently gave birth. Also, if you want deep tissue, I will require a release from your doctor stating that massage is safe during your stage of pregnancy. If you need a release form please look under the 'client's forms' tab, it is called Physician's Permission form.

  • First Trimester: When facing up, a small towel will be placed under the right hip to relieve pressure to internal organs. During this trimester, if you are comfortable with it, you can safely lay on your stomach.
  • Second and Third Trimester: Sideling positioning is used with supportive pillows and a towel under the abdomen. This helps to ease any extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas; as well as relieving pressure on abdominal blood vessels, when the pressure of massage techniques are applied. Most of the massage in the sideling position with be with you lying on your left side to prevent pressure also.

Times for Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Prenatal (30 to 60 min):

  • 45 min:  This would not include a full-body massage. Since there is limited time with this session, techniques are applied to one to three different areas of your body of your choosing based on type of massage.
  • 90 min: This session is long enough to give a full body massage. If there are any areas that you would like me to concentrate more on I can do so, while this will cut down the time spent on all other areas of the body, this will allow me to apply more focus to these areas of concentration. You can receive treatment to only certain areas of your body as well, instead of a full body session.
  • 120 min: This session can receive the same treatment as the 90 minute session, the only difference is if you do have areas that you want me to concentrate on, there is enough time to give a full body massage without cutting down on any of these areas that are not so concerning.
  • 3 hours: Either a massage session focusing on several areas of concern and/or full body session. This will include a 10 min break if needed.

Chair Massage for Businesses and Events: Clients receive massage in a specialized ergonomic chair which I bring to your location. Each session is done fully clothed without lotions or oils. Chair Massage is well suited for people who may do office work or people who sit all day during their job duties. Chair Massage counters the circulatory problems inherent with this type of work and provides a short break for employees. It opens up the back muscles, relieves strain on the neck and provides a gentle rest for eyes usually glued to a computer monitor. It's an excellent reward to give to your employees and fits into a busy schedule. It's also convenient and works with client appreciation events, sporting events, community events, wedding receptions, or any other gathering.

  • 10 min: Massage to the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands.
  • 15 min: Massage to all these areas and a little more work to one of these areas.
  • 30 min: Massage to the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, and legs, plus work to one of these areas.
